Progression Degrees

LLB (Hons) Law

If you’d like to qualify as a solicitor or barrister, this is the degree for you. You will apply your learning during a placement with Citizen’s Advice or via BCU’s own Law Clinic, which serves the local community. By graduation, you will have both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to enter the workplace as a lawyer.

LLB (Hons) Law with American Legal Studies

BCU’s Centre for American Legal Studies operates the UK’s largest student internship programme to the USA. Previous students have completed work placements in Federal and State Public Defender offices, private attorney offices, and American University Law Schools – from New York City to San Francisco!

LLB (Hons) Law with Business Law

You will study a range of modules, giving you the knowledge to specialise in business law. You will have ample opportunity to apply your knowledge during work placements or by working in BCU’s on-campus Law Clinic, where you can support real clients in the community.

You will study a range of modules, including Criminal Law and Crime & Punishment, giving you the knowledge to specialise in criminal justice. Programme Details

Foundation Modules

Interactive Learning Skills and Communication

Throughout this module, you will learn the academic skills needed for success at a UK university, such as:

  • Time management
  • Public speaking techniques
  • Appropriate language styles
  • Professional communication and presentation
  • Researching and referencing techniques.

Critical Thinking

You will be introduced to the fundamentals of critical thinking. You will learn how to examine and comment on components of an argument, so that you can develop a structured and analytical response.

Composition and Style

This module will define the core principles of effective academic writing, including:

  • How to argue a position coherently and appropriately
  • Distinguishing between descriptive and analytic writing
  • Identifying academic systems of researching and referencing.

ICT Skills

This module will introduce you to the concepts of ICT skills, including applications and reporting mechanisms.

Globalisation

You will explore how the concept of globalisation has evolved, looking at:

  • The economic, political, technological and social forces involved
  • Local/regional beliefs that become global.

Mass Communications

This module will introduce you to the core concepts and principles relevant to mass communications, including some of the major theories.

Introduction to English Legal System

This module will introduce you to the English legal system and how it operates within a democracy. You will also learn about the European Union, its institutions and law, and the effect it has on the English legal system.

Legal Foundations

You will gain an understanding of the main legal skills and how to apply these – including reading and writing legal materials in technical and complex language. You will also develop a basic understanding of the sources of law which underpin the English legal system.
