Tutor Profiles

You will be taught by tutors with significant industry experience and a passion for sharing their knowledge. Get to know three of Birmingham City University International College’s programme leaders below.

Bhavik Sharma

What do you teach at BCUIC?

I teach the art and design modules for our pathway programmes in Architecture, Art and Design, Fashion, Jewellery, and Media.

What are your qualifications?

  • BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles (First Class Honours)
  • PGCERT Certificate Learning & Teaching in HE, Level 7
  • Fellowship in Higher Education Academy, FHEA

What is your professional background?

I have over 10 years’ industry experience, having worked in the following roles:

  • Creative Manager – Designing and developing high fashion for fast fashion across womenswear.
  • Designer and Account Manager – Designing womenswear, menswear and childrenswear for high street brands, researching trends and competitors, pattern cutting, and working alongside team in LA.
  • Ladieswear Designer – Creating trend-led women’s jersey wear for high street brands such as Topshop, River Island, Urban Outfitters, Dorothy Perkins, Asos, New Look, and Miss Selfridge.

How long have you worked at BCUIC?

I’ve worked at BCUIC for about eight years. I still remember the old campus!

What is your favourite BCUIC module to teach and why?

I enjoy teaching ‘Researching, Recording and Responding in Art and Design’ and ‘Information and Interpretation in Art and Design’ because they are research-based modules. They help students understand how research influences their creative journey, which is so important.


Dennis Appiah

What do you teach at BCUIC?

I teach foundation mathematics, advanced mathematics, business analytics, economics, and various statistical modules on several of our pathway programmes, including Built Environment, Computing, and Engineering.

What are your qualifications?

  • Diploma in Statistics and Economics
  • BSc (Hons) Statistics, Mathematics and Economics
  • MSc Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Mathematics and Economics (with a focus on research methods)

What is your professional background?

With over a decade of experience, I am a qualified statistician and financial analyst.

How long have you worked at BCUIC?

I’ve taught at BCUIC for the past five years.

What is your favourite BCUIC module to teach and why?

I enjoy teaching students the fundamentals of mathematics to better prepare them for their future studies at BCU. Mathematics education is especially rewarding as it fosters critical thinking skills, allowing us to explore real-world concepts – such as patterns and inequalities – and their interconnectedness with the world around us.


Anjil Bala

What do you teach at BCUIC?

I teach the accounting and finance modules at BCUIC.

What are your qualifications?

  • MCom Accounting & Finance
  • MSc Financial Management

What is your professional background?

I have several years’ experience teaching AAT, ACCA and CIMA to apprentices.

How long have you worked at BCUIC?

I’ve worked at BCUIC for nearly 10 years.

What is your favourite BCUIC module to teach and why?

My favourite module is financial accounting because it is a fundamental aspect of business and finance. It’s so interesting to explain the financial comparison between two businesses, and it empowers students to make financially wise decisions regarding investments. I also feel very passionate about teaching professional ethics of financial accounting and helping students realise the importance of accounting standards.
