Orientation and Enrolment

All new students at Birmingham City University International College (BCUIC) are required to attend Orientation and Enrolment before starting their studies.

Orientation

Orientation is your chance to settle in at BCUIC and make friends before your classes start. Attendance is compulsory, as each session helps prepare you for when teaching begins.

As well as welcomes from the BCUIC and Birmingham City University (BCU) teams, some of the talks during Orientation will include the following essential topics:

  • Finance and UK currency
  • Keeping safe in the city
  • Public transport and travel passes
  • Visa regulations made easy
  • Using the Student Portal
  • BCU Students’ Union
  • Academic expectations

There will also be fun activities, such as campus tours, UK quizzes, and speed friending – a fun way of getting to know your new classmates!

If you arrive in the UK in time for Orientation, you are expected to attend Orientation in person at BCUIC. If you are still overseas and waiting for your visa when Orientation begins, you will need to join online via Zoom.

Enrolment

In order to receive your timetable and begin your classes at BCUIC, you will need to complete enrolment. Enrolment takes place during the same week as Orientation. The Student Support team will share detailed guidance on how to complete the enrolment process, but here is a brief overview of the steps involved:

  1. Complete Pre-Enrolment Check
  2. Complete BCUIC online registration
  3. Book on-campus enrolment appointment
  4. Complete BCU online enrolment
  5. Complete on-campus enrolment with BCUIC and BCU

You will need to enrol with both BCUIC and BCU (two separate processes) before you can begin your classes.

You should report to BCUIC to complete your on-campus enrolment as soon as possible after you arrive in the UK.
